Bubble Robotics, a Paris startup spun out of the Entrepreneurs First program, has raised $5 million in pre-seed funding to deploy a resident workforce of underwater robots that continuously inspect subsea pipelines, offshore wind cables and harbor infrastructure.
The round was led by Episode 1 Ventures, Asterion Ventures and Norrsken Evolve. CEO Jean Crosetti, a former NASA and ETH Zurich engineer, said the financing will let Bubble move its first physical AI platform from prototype into pilot deployments with European energy and security customers later this year.
A persistent ocean workforce
Today, most offshore inspections rely on costly ship-based campaigns that send a remotely operated vehicle down for a few days every few months. Bubble instead plans to leave its docked autonomous robots on site permanently, with on-board edge inference for anomaly detection and a charging dock that doubles as a comms uplink.
Why investors are circling subsea AI
Capital is flowing into the maritime corner of physical AI as offshore wind, subsea cabling and harbor security all demand more frequent monitoring than legacy vendors can deliver. Bubble joins a competitive field of European startups — alongside vessels-focused players like Blue Water Autonomy and AUV specialists — chasing the inspection budget.
What the money buys
The team plans to grow its perception and controls staff, finish the second-generation prototype, and stand up its first dockside test site this summer. The startup is positioning itself as a long-term subsea data layer rather than a one-off vehicle vendor.
Outlook
Episode 1 has been an active early-stage backer of European deeptech. The pre-seed comes amid a surge of physical AI rounds that are clearing larger thresholds than in past cycles, including Anvil Robotics' $5.5 million seed the same month.
