Stirling, Scotland-based advanced materials company iGii announced on September 16, 2026 that it has closed a €26.5 million (£22.7 million) growth round to scale industrial production of Gii, its proprietary three-dimensional porous carbon nanomaterial. The financing is anchored by a €13.65 million commitment from the Scottish National Investment Bank, alongside PXN Ventures, Archangels and Scottish Enterprise.

Growing Carbon, Not Mining It

Gii is engineered by iGii’s team of chemists and process engineers rather than mined from the ground. The material is grown at room temperature and already flows off production lines at industrial volumes, a rarity in the advanced-carbon world. Its structure integrates biological, chemical and physical properties, opening applications in multi-analyte biosensing, microheaters and flexible printed electrodes for next-generation batteries.

“Every industrial revolution has been enabled by a breakthrough in materials, and this funding means iGii can help enable the next one,” chief executive Jean-Christophe Granier said. Scottish Enterprise chief Adrian Gillespie framed the technology as “an exciting, sustainable and scalable alternative to constrained raw materials.”

A Mission-Led Growth Bank Leads The Round

For the Scottish National Investment Bank, launched in 2020 with an initial £2 billion of capital, iGii is a flagship deployment against its Just Transition and Innovation missions. The bank’s cheque is designed to help iGii open new production capacity in Stirling and expand a commercial pipeline that already includes battery and sensor customers.

Materials Feeding The Electrification Wave

iGii’s Series B lands as the materials layer beneath electrification tightens. Battery deals such as BYD’s 2027 solid-state battery launch plan and semiconductor-adjacent rounds like Cornelis Networks show why nanocarbon suppliers are getting a fresh look.
