Opal Security Raises $23M for AI-Native Access Governance

Opal Security has raised $23 million to expand its AI-native access governance platform as enterprises scramble to control a surge of non-human and AI-agent identities, the San Francisco company said.

Governing every identity, including AI agents

Opal's platform gives security teams real-time visibility, expressive policy-as-code, and direct control over every identity, from employees to service accounts to autonomous AI agents. The company argues that the rise of agentic AI is straining traditional identity and access management, where machine identities now vastly outnumber human ones and often hold standing privileges that are hard to audit.

Greylock and Battery Ventures lead the round

The funding was led by Greylock and Battery Ventures, with participation from Cambium Capital, bringing Opal's total raised to roughly $59 million. The company also expanded its leadership team with five senior hires across product, engineering, marketing, and field engineering, and said more than 60% of its employees joined this year.

Cybersecurity and identity access concept

The raise extends a busy stretch for AI-security funding, alongside deals such as NeuralTrust's seed round to secure enterprise AI agents and broader physical-AI bets like Odyssey's world-model financing.

A widening market for machine-identity control

Opal plans to use the capital to expand operations and accelerate development as demand grows for least-privilege, just-in-time access across human, non-human, and agentic identities. Investor appetite for security startups with a defense and national-security angle remains strong, as seen in rounds like Twenty's $100M Series B.

The company positions itself for an era in which autonomous agents increasingly act inside corporate systems, making identity the new control plane for enterprise security.
