$200,000 price, sub-2s 0-60, October reveal
The reservation page carries the same 2017 spec sheet: 0-60 mph in under two seconds, a top speed above 250 mph, a claimed 620-mile range from a 200 kWh pack and pricing expected at roughly $200,000 — making it Tesla's most expensive model when it arrives. Musk has hinted at a "SpaceX package" of cold-gas thrusters that could allow the car to hover briefly, ahead of an official reveal event scheduled for October 1.
Nine years of teasing
The Roadster was announced in November 2017 alongside the Tesla Semi and has slipped into 2027 or 2028 for actual production. Original reservation-holders who paid $50,000 or $250,000 (Founders Series) have waited nearly a decade, and Tesla is now essentially collecting new interest-free deposits from a fresh pool of buyers to fund the program.
A quieter week in Austin
The reservation reopening lands the same week Tesla's active Austin robotaxi fleet crashed back to just eight vehicles after last month's Cybercab pump, and as Tesla leans into a robotaxi race dominated by Waymo's international expansion. Musk still has a lot to sell on October 1.
