YC-Backed Zeit AI Raises €5M Seed To Ship 'Autonomous Data Engineer' To European Mid-Market

Munich-based startup Zeit AI has closed a €5 million seed round to scale ZeitMind, an agentic AI system it markets as an "autonomous data engineer" for European mid-market enterprises.

YC and Sequoia join a European seed

The round, announced on September 3, 2026, was backed by Y Combinator, the University of Oxford's Seed Fund, the Sequoia Capital Scout Fund, ACE Ventures and Hasso Plattner VC — the investment fund of SAP co-founder Hasso Plattner. Angels include former German Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner, World Cup winner Mario Götze, Meta board member Charlie Songhurst, Martin Schoeller of Schoeller Group and Helsing CTO Robert Fink.

ZeitMind: an autonomous data engineer

Founded in 2024 by Palantir alumni Leopold von Waldthausen and Marvin Bornstein, Zeit AI positions ZeitMind as an antidote to the Excel workarounds still ubiquitous inside European industrial and mid-market companies. The product connects ERP, CRM and more than 600 other source systems, then uses an agentic layer to build analytics-ready applications on demand, with lineage traceable down to the individual transaction and all processing carried out in European data centres.

Growth without the burn

Zeit AI joined Y Combinator's S24 batch and, according to von Waldthausen, went from zero to €1 million ARR in twelve months with a team of six. Current customers include Kolbenschmidt, agricultural machinery maker Horsch, agri-trading group Allgaier Agrarhandel, logistics firm Wahl & Co, Munich consultancy Stern Stewart & Co and Luxembourg-based Jetfly Aviation. The company plans to use the fresh capital to hire deployment engineers and open a London office to complement its Munich headquarters.
