Meta has expanded its US clean-energy partnership with German power giant RWE, signing a long-term corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) for the 298-megawatt (MWac) Rabbit's Foot Solar project under construction in Bowie County, Texas. Announced on 11 June 2026, the deal is the fourth between the two companies since 2024 and pushes their combined contracted solar capacity past 872 MW.

Rabbit's Foot began onsite construction earlier in 2026 and is expected to begin commercial operation by year-end 2027. Once online it will deliver renewable electricity that supports Meta's goal of matching its operations with 100% clean energy — a target now under intensifying pressure from the AI build-out. RWE Americas estimates the project will create roughly 200 local construction jobs and generate more than $50 million in long-term tax revenue over 40 years for Bowie County, the DeKalb Independent School District, Texarkana College and Emergency District #6.
The fourth Meta–RWE deal in two years
The Rabbit's Foot PPA follows three earlier US agreements: the 274 MW Emily Solar project (formerly County Run Solar) in Illinois, the 100 MW Lafitte Solar project in Louisiana and the 200 MW Waterloo Solar facility in Texas. "Our partnership with Meta continues to grow as we work together to deliver reliable power that supports their energy commitments," said Ingmar Ritzenhofen, chief commercial officer for RWE Americas. Amanda Yang, head of Clean and Renewable Energy at Meta, said the project will "bring new generation to the Texas grid while creating local jobs and delivering lasting economic benefits."
AI's growing appetite for clean power
RWE is one of the largest renewables developers in the United States with 13 GW of generation capacity in operation across 27 states, and plans to add another 9 GW of net new capacity by 2031. The Meta agreement lands at a moment when hyperscaler PPAs are reshaping the US solar market: Meta has been one of the most active corporate offtakers in the country, while peers like Google, Microsoft and Amazon race to lock in firm capacity for their AI infrastructure build-outs.
For RWE, deepening its Meta relationship is a hedge against tariff and trade-policy whiplash on solar imports and a way to anchor billions in remaining US project development. For Meta, it is another piece in a corporate clean-energy portfolio that already spans Texas utility-scale solar+storage and wind to feed an AI training fleet that needs every gigawatt it can find.
