AMD used its opening keynote at IFA 2026 in Berlin to unveil the Threadripper Halo Station, a liquid-cooled deskside workstation the company calls "the most powerful workstation in the world" — a machine engineered to run frontier-class AI models with more than one trillion parameters locally, without a cloud connection.

Datacenter-class compute at a single desk

The Threadripper Halo Station pairs a 96-core, 192-thread AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX CPU (codenamed "Shimada Peak") with up to four AMD Instinct MI350P accelerators, delivering as much as 576 GB of HBM3e memory alongside 2 TB of DDR5 system RAM. AMD says total system memory can reach 2.6 TB with aggregate memory bandwidth of up to 16.4 TB/s — figures the company claims give it as much as 3.4x the combined memory of Nvidia's DGX Station reference platform.

Each MI350P accelerator carries 144 GB of HBM3e memory with 4 TB/s of peak memory bandwidth on a 4,096-bit interface. AMD's SVP and GM of Computing and Graphics Jack Huynh described the machine as a new class of workstation bringing supercomputer-class compute to individual developers, extending an "era of personal AI" that AMD is also pushing with its Ryzen AI Max+ Halo mini-workstation.

Built for AI agents, not single prompts

AMD framed the Halo Station around a specific workflow shift: from one-off inference to continuously running agents. With frontier-class models loaded permanently in HBM, teams can fine-tune, iterate and orchestrate hundreds of agentic workflows locally, keeping sensitive IP on-premise and avoiding cloud-inference bills that add up hour by hour.

Positioning and pricing

The system is essentially a server tray reconfigured into a tower — an EPYC host swapped for the higher-clocked 96-core Threadripper Pro. AMD did not disclose pricing, but analyst estimates put the street price above $100,000 for the base configuration (CPU, memory and two accelerators) and closer to $150,000 with the four-accelerator maximum, storage and enterprise cooling. The company said the Halo Station will ship in 2027 through AMD's OEM partners.

The launch caps a busy AMD week in Berlin. Alongside the Halo Station, AMD unveiled the Ryzen AI Max Pro 400 series for enterprise personal AI, and set a direct challenge to Nvidia's Vera Rubin-based DGX systems in the workstation tier.
