German defence technology company ARX Robotics on June 3 unveiled a sweeping European expansion plan that will quintuple its German production capacity by year-end, double headcount and put a new Munich headquarters and manufacturing facility at the centre of Europe's autonomous defence push.
Fivefold Capacity, New Munich HQ
The Munich-area plant will serve as both ARX Robotics' corporate headquarters and the primary production site for its GEREON unmanned ground vehicle series, with a build-out targeting a fivefold increase in annual UGV output by the end of 2026. The company plans to roughly double its workforce over the same period, hiring across engineering, software, R&D and manufacturing. "Europe is entering a new era of defence — an era of speed, autonomy, and sovereignty," said co-founder and CEO Marc Wietfeld.
Berlin Office, UK Plant And Ukraine Localisation
Alongside the Munich expansion, ARX Robotics confirmed a new Berlin office focused on coordination with policymakers, defence agencies and European security stakeholders, plus localised production in the United Kingdom to fulfil early British Army orders. The company is also the largest Western supplier of UGVs in Ukraine; on May 11 it inked a fresh contract with the Ukrainian Defence Forces for several hundred additional GEREON systems, and it is now standing up parts of production inside Ukraine to shorten delivery times.
GEREON UGVs And Mithra OS
The GEREON platform can carry up to 500 kilograms of payload across logistics, casualty evacuation and surveillance missions. ARX Robotics binds its hardware to Mithra OS, an AI-powered operating system designed to coordinate fleets of robotic ground vehicles and retrofit autonomy into existing military platforms — a software-defined approach the firm says is now in service with several European armed forces.
Europe's Robotics Spend Catches Up
The expansion lands as European governments accelerate procurement of robotics, AI and unmanned systems, mirroring the U.S. Pentagon's $500 million counter-drone deal with Perennial Autonomy and the broader policy push behind frontier AI safety. ARX Robotics says its rebrand and scale-up reflect a deliberate transition from a 2022 startup into an established European defence manufacturer prepared to feed the new spending cycle.
