A squad of DEEP Robotics' Lynx M20 wheeled-legged robots has been patrolling Monterrey Stadium during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, forming what the company calls a new model for autonomous security at major sporting events. The deployment, announced on June 23, was co-developed with Mexican technology partner TICSA.

Guarding a record-breaking tournament

This year's World Cup features 48 teams competing across 104 matches, the largest edition ever. Monterrey Stadium, the premier Mexican host venue for knockout-stage matches, seats roughly 53,000 spectators across about 125,000 square meters. Crowds of that size create patrol blind spots, slow emergency response and exhausting demands on human security teams. DEEP Robotics positioned its Lynx M20 units to provide round-the-clock monitoring inside and outside the stadium.

What the Lynx M20 brings to the pitch

The Lynx M20 is an industrial-grade, wheeled-legged quadruped weighing just 33 kg, with IP66 protection, dual 96-line LiDAR and omnidirectional obstacle avoidance. It can autonomously follow preset routes, ascend and descend stairs, squeeze through narrow passages and stream real-time panoramic video. When it detects abnormal crowd gatherings or facility irregularities, it issues instant alerts and voice broadcasts, enabling a closed-loop "detection, assessment, response" workflow with millisecond-level reaction.

From Asian Games to global stage

DEEP Robotics says its machines have already safeguarded the Hangzhou Asian Games and protected underground power infrastructure, and the World Cup represents its most demanding public-safety test yet. The Hangzhou-based firm, which is preparing a Shanghai STAR Market listing, continues to push embodied AI into real-world security, inspection and emergency-response roles. The work echoes other event-security robot rollouts such as Boston Dynamics' Spot at the Dallas World Cup venue, and follows DEEP Robotics' own field tests including its Lynx S10 Arctic expedition and its planned STAR Market IPO.
