Boston-based cardiovascular AI company Elucid announced on 2 September 2026 that it has closed an oversubscribed $55 million Series D financing, taking its total funding to roughly $185 million. The round pulls in a new publicly traded medical device company as Elucid’s fourth strategic backer, alongside existing investors IAG Capital Partners and Elevage Medical Technologies, a Patient Square Capital platform.
Plaque-IQ Goes From Cleared To Commercial
Elucid uses AI to convert standard coronary CT angiography scans into biological and hemodynamic intelligence. Its flagship Plaque-IQ is the only FDA-cleared, non-invasive imaging software that quantifies high-risk plaque tissue types — including lipid-rich necrotic cores — across coronary and carotid arteries, validated directly against ex-vivo histopathology. The new capital funds a broader push into US hospitals and radiology reading rooms after the software’s recent United Healthcare coverage decision.
BioIntegrated FFR-CT Awaits FDA Green Light
The company is also readying BioIntegrated FFR-CT, a non-invasive fractional flow reserve tool that combines fluid dynamics with plaque morphology to match the accuracy of invasive pressure-wire studies. The product is under FDA 510(k) review; Elucid says the Series D will support its commercial launch and multicenter trials to prove that plaque quantification changes downstream therapy and reduces major adverse cardiac events (MACE).

Why It Matters
Cardiovascular disease is still the leading cause of death worldwide, and workups today lean heavily on invasive catheter angiography for both anatomy and physiology. By collapsing anatomy, plaque biology and blood-flow physiology into a single non-invasive pipeline, Elucid is positioning itself to challenge established players such as HeartFlow and Cleerly. The raise arrives inside a wider week of AI-in-healthcare momentum, including OpenAI plugging ChatGPT Health into Epic and OpenEvidence’s new family of clinical AI models.
