Robotics AI startup Generalist AI has raised approximately $200 million in fresh funding led by 8VC, according to reporting by Axios and SiliconANGLE published August 24, 2026. The round comes only weeks after the Palo Alto startup debuted Gen-1.5, its second-generation embodied foundation model designed to program robotic arms from human demonstrations, and roughly two months after a $400 million raise led by Nvidia and Bezos Expeditions.
8VC Doubles Down On Physical AI
According to Axios, 8VC led the new $200M investment with participation from a group of unnamed existing investors, taking Generalist’s total disclosed funding to roughly $600 million across recent rounds. Generalist’s prior June 2026 round valued the company at about $2 billion and included Nvidia, Bezos Expeditions, Radical Ventures, USV, Hanabi, Spark Capital and Fei-Fei Li, underscoring the intensifying investor race to back companies building general-purpose AI brains for robotic hardware.
Why Gen-1.5 Matters
Generalist unveiled Gen-1.5 in mid-August as a model that can learn a new robotic-arm task from a single human demonstration rather than task-specific fine-tuning, using the robot’s built-in cameras or wearable hand sensors. In internal benchmarks across ten sample tasks the model reached a 59 percent average completion rate with a single example, rising to 83 percent with a few more, and Gen-1.5 was able to autonomously choose alternative tools when the instructed one was not optimal.
Capital For Compute And Deployment
Generalist has not detailed how it plans to spend the new capital, but Gen-1.5 required more than eight months of training and the company is expected to continue leaning on Nvidia GPU infrastructure and Jetson robotics silicon. The fresh cash also arrives as rival Veeda AI raised $90 million for physical-AI world models, and as XPENG Robotics closed $900M at a $6.3 billion valuation to mass-produce its IRON humanoid, signaling continued record-setting capital flow into physical AI.
