XPENG Robotics Raises Over $900M at $6.3B Valuation to Mass-Produce IRON

XPENG’s humanoid robotics business closed its first external funding round at over US$900M, valuing the unit at more than US$6.3B, in what the automaker calls China’s largest single embodied-AI raise ahead of IRON mass production by year-end.

XPENG Robotics Raises Over $900M at $6.3B Valuation to Mass-Produce IRON

XPENG Robotics, the humanoid business of Chinese EV maker XPENG, announced on August 24, 2026 that it has signed equity financing agreements totaling more than US$900 million in its first external funding round, at a post-money valuation of over US$6.3 billion. The company describes the deal as the largest single private-equity round ever completed in China’s embodied intelligence sector.

The round was led by IDG Capital, with participation from Gaorong Ventures and strategic backing from Tencent and Alibaba. Roughly US$600 million comes from external investors, US$200 million from an XPENG subsidiary and US$100 million from company leadership, according to XPENG. XPENG will spin its robotics assets, IP and staff into a standalone subsidiary over the next 18 months while retaining about 82% ownership, keeping the unit consolidated in group financials but giving it its own market valuation.

IRON: 76 DoF, on-device Physical AI

The financing is meant to push the next-generation IRON humanoid robot into mass production by the end of 2026. IRON has 76 degrees of freedom across its body and 21 in each hand, wrapped in what XPENG describes as the sector’s first fully covered flexible lattice structure — a synthetic skin engineered to balance safety and human-like appearance. Three of XPENG’s in-house Turing AI chips deliver a combined 2,250 TOPS on-device, allowing the company’s Physical AI foundation model to run locally so IRON can, XPENG claims, autonomously perform complex tasks without teleoperation.

Automotive-grade manufacturing, 1M-unit ambition

XPENG’s central pitch is that it can bring “automotive-grade quality standards and large-scale mass production” to humanoids by leveraging the supply chain and factories it built for EVs. The company reported 103,295 vehicle deliveries in Q2 2026, up 64.8% quarter-over-quarter, and says the robotics unit is targeting monthly capacity of more than 1,000 IRON units, with a stated ambition of 1 million cumulative units by 2030. IRON will first be deployed inside XPENG stores and campuses before a broader launch and deliveries in China and overseas markets in 2027.

The raise puts XPENG among the most heavily capitalised humanoid programs anywhere, and comes as related deals such as the BYD humanoid debut and the Q4 mass-production timeline continue to escalate China’s embodied-AI arms race.
