Alphabet chief executive Sundar Pichai said Google's Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, calling it the fastest-growing product in the company's history and its 14th to hit that milestone.
Catching ChatGPT On The 1B Line
Pichai announced the figure on X, crediting Josh Woodward, the Google vice president leading Google Labs, the Gemini app and AI Studio. The milestone puts Gemini roughly two months behind OpenAI's ChatGPT, which crossed 1 billion monthly actives in June. Google says the count excludes users who reach Gemini through Search's AI Mode — itself a 1-billion-MAU product — and covers only the standalone app.
Voice And Image Generation Do The Heavy Lifting
Sixty-three percent of Gemini app users now talk to the assistant with the voice feature, according to Google, and the app is generating more than 150 million images every day. Google also disclosed 100 million monthly actives on iOS, evidence that Gemini's growth is no longer just an Android-and-Search story. The company continues to push new models into the app, most recently Gemini 3.5 Flash, positioned for coding and agentic tasks.
Momentum Ahead Of Pixel And Enterprise Push
The 1 billion figure lands weeks after Q2 2026 earnings, when Google said Gemini already had over 950 million monthly users with daily actives up threefold year over year. It also lands just before the Made by Google event, where more Gemini features are expected across Pixel devices, and against a backdrop of record AI compute buildouts and tighter provenance rules for AI output.
