Google on September 21, 2026 opened preorders for Googlebook — a new AI-first laptop category running its Aluminium OS with on-device Gemini as the interface, priced from $899 and shipped by Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo.
Aluminium, Gemini and 45+ TOPS silicon
Every flagship Googlebook pairs an Intel or Qualcomm processor with a dedicated NPU rated for 45 or more TOPS, 2.8K OLED touch displays, haptic glass trackpads and up to 14 hours of battery life inside chassis built from aluminum, magnesium alloy or carbon fiber. Aluminium OS ships with three Gemini-native features Google calls Magic Pointer (wiggle the cursor to summon Gemini on whatever's on-screen), Rambler (spoken thoughts converted to structured writing) and Create My Widget (custom desktop widgets from plain-language descriptions).
Phone-continuity and a full software bundle
Google is pushing Android as the sidecar: Continue On resumes tasks from an Android phone on the laptop, a shared Files app surfaces phone photos and documents, and Cast My Apps streams phone applications into a desktop window. Every Googlebook ships with 12 months of Google AI Pro (5TB of storage), 3 months of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop.
An AI-PC play with real distribution
Retail availability starts October 4 in the United States and October 5 in Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany and Australia. Googlebook slots directly into a broader Google push that also includes the family-oriented CC agent and enterprise moves like the arms race for on-device NPUs across Apple's returning M8 server line.
