Germany's HyImpulse Technologies has closed a Series A extension of more than €50 million, co-led by JOIN Capital and Ace Capital Partners, that pushes the Neuenstadt-based launcher's total equity-and-public funding above €125 million.
Half The Parts, Half The Cost Per Kilogram
The round backs a proprietary hybrid-propulsion architecture that pairs non-explosive paraffin fuel with liquid oxygen. HyImpulse claims the design has roughly half the parts of a comparable kerolox rocket, a clear path to half the cost per kilogram to orbit, and dramatically simpler manufacturing. "Europe doesn't just need more rockets; it needs launch economics that actually work," said JOIN Capital founding partner Jan Borgstädt, explaining the co-lead.
SR75 Ready For A Second SaxaVord Flight
HyImpulse already flies the SR75, a commercial suborbital launcher capable of Mach 15 and 10,000 km ranges. After its 2024 inaugural campaign at the Koonibba Test Range in South Australia, the company is preparing a second SR75 launch from SaxaVord Spaceport in Scotland by year-end. Hypersonic testing, threat simulation and suborbital science payloads are the target market — all in growing demand from European defense ministries.
SL1 Orbital Maiden Flight Next
The bigger prize is SL1, HyImpulse's small orbital launcher whose maiden flight is next on the roadmap after SR75's second campaign. If SL1 works, HyImpulse would give Europe a domestic dedicated-smallsat launcher at a moment when Ariane 6 is heavily booked and the European Space Agency is openly courting private alternatives.
Order Book Above €350M
HyImpulse says its combined suborbital and orbital order book already exceeds €350 million. Beyond JOIN and Ace, the round also included North Ventures, BW-Capital, Bayern Kapital, the German Aerospace Centre (DLR, which spun HyImpulse out in 2018) and existing shareholder Campus Founders Ventures.
Sovereign Space, But With A Cost Discipline
The financing arrives as Europe intensifies its push for sovereign launch capacity. HyImpulse's story is that it can do so without relying on billion-euro state programs.
