Molex on August 5, 2026, unveiled MiniMix, a purpose-built hybrid power-and-signal connector that the Lisle, Illinois component maker calls the industry's smallest, aimed squarely at solving the wiring bottleneck slowing humanoid robot mass production.
One Interface, Power and Data
MiniMix combines up to 15.0A of power delivery and a 1Gbps 1000BASE-T1 Ethernet channel inside a single 5.65mm routing profile — up to 50% less routing area than alternative solutions, according to Molex. Vertical and right-angle mating orientations let engineers thread pre-terminated cable assemblies through narrow actuator channels, articulated limbs and end-effectors instead of hand-soldering leads on the assembly line.
Why Robotics Buyers Care
Humanoid platforms typically pack around 50 articulated joint actuators, and a 2026 McKinsey supply-chain analysis found that joint actuators account for 40-60% of a humanoid's bill of materials. Every extra connector or hand-crimped wire in a wrist, elbow or ankle assembly is a potential failure point and slows takt time — exactly the pain point Molex is targeting as builders like Apptronik, Boston Dynamics and Chinese competitors ramp production.
Ecosystem Integration
MiniMix slots into Molex's wider humanoid stack alongside its Mirror Mezz mezzanine connectors, which serve as the high-speed interface for AI compute modules such as NVIDIA's Jetson Thor, and its EXTreme Ten60 high-power connectors used inside battery and drive systems. Samples and functional evaluation assemblies are available now; full commercial production is slated for late 2026.
