Berlin-based Nomos Energy has raised €20 million in a Series A led by Index Ventures, with Bolt CEO Markus Villig, UiPath co-founder Daniel Dines and Nord Security co-founder Tomas Okmanas all writing checks. The round arrives 15 months after Nomos' €1.9M pre-seed and is squarely aimed at Europe's runaway retail power bill.
An AI-Native Utility, Sold Under Someone Else's Brand
Nomos calls itself a full-stack regulated electricity supplier that connects household solar, home batteries, heat pumps and EV chargers to the wholesale market. Installers and energy retailers use the platform to sell dynamic tariffs, solar-export and battery-flexibility products under their own brand — while Nomos handles procurement, metering, balancing and billing behind the scenes. Co-founder Stefan Gerbes framed the mission bluntly: address, in his view, “Europe's most serious problem — high energy costs.”
Where The Money Goes
The capital funds a public product launch, hiring in Berlin, and expansion beyond Germany. Nomos has been running commercial pilots with installer partners since 2024 and now says its AI-native tariffing and flexibility trading are ready to scale across Europe. Backers cite the timing: as more European homes add solar, batteries and EV chargers, the untapped flexibility inside those devices is becoming a real market.
Fits A Wider Distributed-Energy Push
Nomos' raise lands alongside a wave of AI-driven power-grid infrastructure deals — see our coverage of BYD's 2027 solid-state battery push and the Toyota–Scania hydrogen fuel-cell truck pilot. Consumer-facing platforms like Nomos sit on the other side of that stack: distributed, software-first, and betting the next 20% of grid capacity comes from behind-the-meter assets rather than new central generation.
