Shenzhen-based Pudu Robotics is pushing deeper into heavy industry with the launch of the PUDU D7, a dual-arm industrial semi-humanoid built on its PuduFM 1.0 embodied intelligence foundation model. The platform is engineered for the same shop floors that have been rolling out humanoid pilots from Apptronik and Figure, but Pudu is targeting a narrower band of tasks — high-frequency handling, picking and tactile assembly — where reliability and cost trump showroom novelty.

Embodied Intelligence Built On PuduFM 1.0

Unlike conventional industrial robots that follow predefined programs, Pudu says the D7 can understand tasks, learn from experience and optimize its behaviour in changing real-world environments. The system pairs PuduFM 1.0 with dual front-and-rear LiDAR and a multi-sensor perception stack, identifying obstacles, route changes and environmental shifts in real time. Pudu is positioning the platform as a step beyond the company's well-known service robots and into the industrial AI category where Intel just unveiled its OpenVINO Physical AI framework.

Dual-Arm Handling Up To 14 Kilograms

In inventory storage and warehouse environments, the D7 can autonomously perform high-frequency material handling, shelf picking, inventory replenishment and intralogistics transportation. It carries a 14 kg (30.9 lb) payload and reaches up to two meters (6.6 ft), enough to address mid-shelf operations that are awkward for both wheeled robots and human pickers. For precision tasks like dispensing, assembly and fine manipulation, the D7 is equipped with advanced tactile sensors that detect contact force and pressure feedback in real time, delivering what Pudu describes as millimeter-level force-control accuracy.

Industrial Humanoids Race For Real Workloads

The D7 launch lands in a market that is shifting from demo videos to production deployments. BMW recently brought Hexagon's AEON humanoid into Plant Leipzig, while Japan's Atom raised a $19M seed for humanoid platforms, signalling that buyers want robots that can earn back their cost on continuous-duty cycles. Pudu's pitch with the D7 is similar in spirit but more pragmatic: rather than full bipedal humanoids, give factories a mobile dual-arm platform with embodied AI that can be deployed and supervised at the same scale as today's AMR fleets, complementing earlier projects like the Morph soft-robotics platform.
