Universal, Sony, Warner Join Stability AI's $76M Series B

Stable Diffusion maker Stability AI has closed a $76 million Series B funding round in what it calls a strategic financing, with every major U.S. music group joining the cap table alongside gaming and semiconductor investors. The deal takes total funding under CEO Prem Akkaraju to $232 million since he took over the London-based generative AI company in 2024.

Every major label writes a check

Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group and Warner Music Group are all backing the round — a first for a generative AI company. They're joined by Electronic Arts, AMD Ventures and Pacific Alliance Ventures, plus returning investors Coatue, Greycroft, Kadmos Capital, Sean Parker and Eric Schmidt. Stability signed development-and-integration deals with Universal and EA in October and with Warner in November, giving each partner an active role in co-developing tools rather than only licensing model output.

From open-model image gen to creative production stack

Stability said the new capital will fund an expanded creative-production product suite spanning image, video and music generation, plus a growing professional-services business. That positions the company against a wave of well-funded rivals stitching foundation models into production pipelines — from OpenAI Sora and Runway to Black Forest Labs — while betting that direct label and studio partnerships will differentiate its music and video offering.

Legal overhang finally lifting

The Series B lands weeks after Stability's UK High Court win over Getty Images, which had accused the company of infringing IP rights by using its stock library to train image generators. A largely favourable judgment removes a key overhang, though a parallel Getty lawsuit is still moving through the U.S. courts. "This financing is an affirmation of our vision where generative AI empowers every producer, musician and storyteller," Akkaraju said in a statement.

The rebuild continues

Akkaraju's turnaround is now well into its second year after the messy departure of co-founder Emad Mostaque and years of governance and cash-burn concerns. The new capital gives Stability runway to keep hiring and to double down on its enterprise creative platform strategy, in a market where specialized inference plays like Fireworks AI and infrastructure providers like Together AI are pulling in unicorn-scale rounds of their own.
