TacnIQ.ai, a Singapore-based robotics-AI startup, announced on September 22, 2026 that it has closed $1.5 million from In Group Holdings as the first tranche of a planned $3 million pre-seed round to scale its tactile-AI foundation models for physical machines.
Tactile Data Where Vision Cannot Reach
TacnIQ.ai builds foundation models trained on more than 5,000 hours of real-world tactile interactions, giving robots and automated systems the ability to interpret pressure, vibration, texture and other contact signals that cameras and LiDAR simply cannot see. CEO and co-founder Aashish Mehta frames the company's edge as commercial deployment volume, in contrast to the lab-scale datasets that most tactile-AI research teams still rely on.
Where Touch-First AI Matters
The company is targeting logistics, construction and healthcare — three sectors where manual work, fine manipulation and quality-checking are still overwhelmingly human. Tactile foundation models let robotic grippers judge grip force, detect part defects and adapt to soft or deformable materials without hand-coded per-task heuristics.
Complement To The Humanoid Wave
TacnIQ.ai's raise arrives in the middle of a humanoid-robotics buildout that includes 1X Technologies' NEO ramp and UBTech's Walker C1 deployments, both of which will need reliable manipulation stacks to be commercially useful. It also lines up with a broader push into embodied AI captured in the August funding data.
Next Steps
Proceeds go to expanding the tactile dataset, hiring in Singapore and closing the remaining $1.5 million of the pre-seed round. A commercial launch of the first model tier is planned before the end of 2026.
