Beijing embodied-AI startup Vbot delivered its first commercial robot dog to a paying customer on June 1, 2026, choosing Horizon Robotics founder and CEO Yu Kai as the symbolic first owner. The handover coincided with Horizon Robotics' 11th anniversary and pushed Vbot's quadruped robot from a year of public demonstrations into the consumer delivery phase.
From Demo To Doorstep
Vbot, founded in December 2024 by Yu Yinan, began open sales of its quadruped robot earlier in 2026 and has been refining the platform through public events and corporate partnerships. The June 1 delivery to Yu Kai is the first to an individual consumer rather than a research lab or industry partner. Pandaily reports that Vbot has now begun pushing version 1.2 firmware to early units, adding outdoor following in beta, improved voice control, more stable stair climbing, smoother weight-bearing gait and power management upgrades.
Why Horizon Robotics Goes First
Choosing Yu Kai is no accident. Horizon Robotics is one of China's most prominent AI compute platform companies for autonomous vehicles and robotics. Yu has spoken publicly about embodied AI as the next platform after smartphones, and his adoption of Vbot's dog gives the startup a visible endorsement inside China's robotics industry. Vbot has previously raised capital from Cathay Capital, Hillhouse Capital, Baidu Ventures and SAIC Motor's Shangqi Capital, and recorded a $73M pre-A funding round earlier this year that lifted the company into China's tier of seriously financed embodied-AI players.
Consumer Quadrupeds Race To Volume
The delivery comes as quadruped robotics enters a critical commercial phase. Unitree and DEEP Robotics are pushing into the consumer market with sub-$2,000 units, while Vbot is positioning itself one tier up with an AI-driven model targeting enthusiasts and developers. Meanwhile defence-grade quadrupeds are also gaining momentum: Taiwan's NCSIST showcased three military robot dog variants based on Ghost Robotics' Vision 60 the same week. Together they show how quickly quadruped robots are spreading across consumer, industrial and defence segments.
