Wing and Walmart have activated drone delivery in Greater Orlando, opening Wing's first Florida market and its latest expansion of what the two companies describe as the nation's largest drone-delivery network. Orders from participating Walmart Supercenters can arrive in as fast as 30 minutes.
Where the network flies today
The launch covers more than 50,000 homes, businesses and apartment buildings around two Walmart Supercenters: #955 at 1700 S. Orange Blossom Trail in Apopka, and #2695 at 1450 Johns Lake Road in Clermont. Walmart and Wing plan to add three more Central Florida sites in the coming weeks — stores in Ocoee, Clermont (Highway 27), and Haines City — pushing service further across the region.
How the service works
Wing's drones cruise at 150 to 200 feet and up to 60 mph before lowering to about 20 feet above a property and gently dropping a package via a secure tether. Each drone currently transports up to 2.5 pounds per flight, with plans to raise that to 5 pounds. Customers see drone delivery as an option inside the Walmart app if their address is in the service area, or they can use the Wing app directly.
Scaling toward 20 US metros
Orlando follows successful Wing-Walmart launches in Houston, Atlanta, and Dallas-Fort Worth. The pair have publicly committed to reaching nearly 20 US metros coast to coast, with future launches announced for Los Angeles, San Diego, Miami and Philadelphia. "We measure success in minutes saved," said Heather Rivera, Wing's Chief Business Officer, framing the Central Florida launch around families dodging traffic and tourists restocking vacation essentials.
