Yokogawa Wires ANYbotics ANYmal Into OpreX For Autonomous Plant Inspection

Yokogawa's OpreX Robot Management Core now steers ANYbotics ANYmal quadrupeds through routine inspections and predictive maintenance rounds at plants.

Yokogawa Wires ANYbotics ANYmal Into OpreX For Autonomous Plant Inspection

Yokogawa Electric has integrated its OpreX Robot Management Core with ANYbotics' ANYmal legged robot, giving plant operators a single console that plans, dispatches and analyses autonomous inspection rounds by four-legged robots on refineries, offshore platforms and substations.

What The Integration Adds

OpreX Robot Management Core sits above the individual robot fleet, orchestrating missions across ANYmal quadrupeds and other inspection assets from a common HMI. Yokogawa says the tie-up automates gauge reads, thermal scans and acoustic anomaly detection, and streams the results back into its process-control stack for predictive maintenance workflows.

Why Operators Care

The value of a mixed fleet is only as good as the software that plans routes and reconciles telemetry with the plant historian. Yokogawa is one of the few automation majors with a certified interface into that historian layer, and ANYbotics' certified explosion-proof ANYmal makes it one of the few legged platforms cleared to walk through hydrocarbon-exposed zones. Together, that pairing pulls quadruped robotics closer to the mainstream inspection contract book that has historically belonged to fixed-camera CCTV and human operators.

Where The Category Is Heading

The move follows a run of quadruped robotics deals aimed at heavy industry, from Strider Robotics' oil-and-gas pilots in India to expanded work with Boston Dynamics' Spot. A quadruped market report published on July 17 tagged inspection robots as the segment's biggest revenue driver.
