ZeroDrift Raises $10M to Build a Compliance Firewall for AI

ZeroDrift has raised an oversubscribed $10 million seed round to build what it calls the compliance firewall for AI, a system designed to stop a non-compliant message, voice call or video before an enterprise's AI ever sends it.

Enforcing compliance before the message leaves the building

Unlike legacy compliance tools that archive and flag communications after the fact, ZeroDrift sits inline between AI systems and the outside world, validating every outbound message, call and video against frameworks such as SEC, FINRA, MiFID II, GDPR and HIPAA in real time. Compliant communications pass instantly; non-compliant ones are caught, explained and rewritten before delivery. The company notes the SEC alone has fined more than 100 firms over $2.2 billion since 2021 for communication violations, each stemming from a message sent before anyone could intervene.

An architecture shift for the agent era

ZeroDrift's design pairs deterministic rule-checking with a large language model that only activates once a message is flagged, rewriting a compliant version with low latency. "Every fine paid for a communication violation in the last five years was paid because the message had already been sent," said founder and CEO Kumesh Aroomoogan, who previously built and sold no-code NLP company Accern. As AI agents take over a growing share of regulated communications in banking, asset management and insurance, ZeroDrift argues the enforcement layer has to exist before the shift, not after.

Investors bet on AI governance infrastructure

The round was led by a16z speedrun with participation from Reign Ventures, PitchDrive Ventures, U&I Ventures, Active Capital, Geek Ventures, Converge Ventures, Atlas SGR and Founders Future. "Compliance is about to become the rate-limiting factor for AI in the enterprise," said Andreessen Horowitz general partner Jonathan Lai. The deal extends a busy stretch for AI-security and governance startups, following Opal Security's $23 million round for AI-native access governance and Patronus AI's $50 million Series B for agent evaluation. Consolidation is also accelerating, as seen in Accenture's wave of OT-security acquisitions.

With its seed capital, ZeroDrift plans to expand rule coverage across regulated industries, broaden support for AI voice, video and agent channels, and grow the API layer that governs autonomous communications in production.
