Anthropic has agreed to a reported $10 billion, six-year cloud-compute deal with UK AI-cloud startup Volta, extending its aggressive multi-cloud strategy for training and inference of Claude. Bloomberg first reported the arrangement on August 4, 2026; TechCrunch confirmed the outlines shortly after.
The 133 MW Norway build
Volta is partnering with Bitdeer, the Nasdaq-listed crypto-miner-turned-data-center-developer, to bring up a 133 megawatt facility in Norway. The site will be populated with NVIDIA's next-generation Vera Rubin AI systems, the chipmaker's state-of-the-art architecture unveiled in January. Volta joined the NVIDIA Cloud Partner program earlier this year, giving it preferred access to Rubin supply.
Anthropic's cloud sprawl
The Volta deal extends a run of compute-securing moves that also includes an alliance with SpaceX, an additional $5 billion tranche from Amazon and reported talks over a $10 billion Meta data-center lease. Volta's rapid rise
Volta was founded in January 2026 by ex-Brookfield Asset Management executives and disclosed a $300 million funding round at a $2.4 billion valuation the same week as the Anthropic deal - a rare six-month sprint from stealth to hyperscaler-tier client. The company leases capacity and structures financing for chip and data-centre buildouts. As frontier labs continue to race for GPUs, deals with capital-efficient specialist clouds like Volta look set to become a template.
