Apple finally gave its long-promised Siri reboot a name. On June 8, 2026, the company opened WWDC 2026 by unveiling "Siri AI," a ground-up rebuild of its voice assistant that runs on a custom version of Google's Gemini foundation model inside Apple's Private Cloud Compute environment — the most consequential AI partnership Cupertino has signed in a decade.
A Gemini-Powered Siri
Senior Vice President Craig Federighi said Siri AI can carry on multi-turn, context-aware conversations, pull from a user's emails, messages, files and photos, answer live web queries and take action across system apps. The assistant ships as both a redesigned system service and a standalone app. Apple confirmed the arrangement with Google — first telegraphed in our WWDC 2026 preview — runs on a private, Apple-customized Gemini variant that never sends raw user data back to Google.
Agents Reach The Passwords App
Apple Intelligence is also picking up agentic actions for the first time. The Passwords app can now "agentically take action on your behalf" — navigating to a website, signing in, rotating an insecure password and updating its vault, all without manual taps. Developers get Xcode 27 with full agentic coding that taps into Anthropic, Google and OpenAI models, autonomous test runs and a new unified Device Hub. Visual Intelligence has graduated from a Camera feature to a system-wide layer, letting Siri AI act on what the iPhone sees.
The agentic story dovetails with broader industry moves like Anthropic pushing Claude into finance via agent templates and Project Glasswing's enterprise expansion.
iOS 27 And The Liquid Glass Refresh
The new release line — iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27 — adopts a unified "Liquid Glass" visual language with translucent layers and stage-style depth. EU users will not see Siri AI at launch as Apple works through Digital Markets Act requirements; the same deferral applies in mainland China while Apple finalizes a local model partner.
For Apple, the stakes are high. Wall Street has been skeptical that Cupertino could ship a credible generative product after years of public stumbles. By trading proprietary purity for Gemini integration, Apple has effectively conceded that the front-end experience and on-device privacy story matter more right now than owning the model — a bet that will be tested as developers move new agentic apps into the App Store this fall.
