Chinese mobility platform CaoCao and U.S. autonomous-vehicle company May Mobility have announced a strategic partnership to commercialize robotaxi services in international markets, starting with Europe. The deal, unveiled on June 24, 2026, pairs CaoCao's fleet-operations muscle with May Mobility's self-driving technology.
Dividing the work
Under the agreement, the two companies will run joint feasibility studies and pilot programs in key markets including Europe. CaoCao, the Geely-backed ride-hailing operator, will serve as fleet owner and operator, leaning on its strengths in dispatching, fleet management and large-scale commercial operations. May Mobility's "autonomy as a service" offering will power the vehicles, drawing on a proprietary architecture that blends deep learning, world models and real-time reasoning. May already runs autonomous services in the United States and Japan.
Ambitious deployment targets
CaoCao has set a goal of deploying 100,000 robotaxis by 2030, and the partnership is framed as a key step toward that vision. The tie-up follows CaoCao's June 18 unveiling of its "RoboX" strategy, a full-scale transformation from a ride-hailing app into what it calls a physical AI mobility technology platform.
A crowded global race
The agreement adds to a fast-consolidating robotaxi landscape where operators and autonomy providers are increasingly pairing up to cross borders. Recent examples include the Stellantis-Wayve-Uber Level 4 partnership, May Mobility's $750M deal with ECARX, and Uber's robotaxi push in London. For May Mobility, the CaoCao deal opens a path into Europe through a partner with deep operational reach; for CaoCao, it secures proven autonomy to accelerate an aggressive global rollout.
