Carbon Robotics opened its autonomy platform to third-party implement makers with a new Carbon Autonomy Ready program, and Kubota-owned Great Plains Manufacturing signed on as the launch partner, integrating its Implement Command system with an HT1100 Terra-Max at the 2026 Farm Progress Show.

Seattle-based Carbon Robotics said on August 31, 2026 that it is opening its tractor-autonomy stack to third-party implement makers through a new Carbon Autonomy Ready program. Kansas-based Great Plains Manufacturing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Kubota, signed on as the launch partner and is demonstrating the integration at the 2026 Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa.

A Certification Track For Autonomous-Ready Implements

Carbon Autonomy Ready lays out a technical specification and integration process for any implement manufacturer to make its equipment work directly with the Carbon Autonomy platform. The idea is to keep growers free to mix and match implements without giving up autonomy, as autonomous tractors expand from ground preparation into tasks like laser weeding.

Great Plains Implement Command Feeds Real-Time Adjustments

Great Plains's Implement Command architecture provides the sensing and control channel the two companies need. Tractors running Carbon Autonomy pull real-time telemetry from Great Plains hardware and automatically adjust depth, down pressure and leveling on the fly, mimicking what a cab operator would do manually. The launch demonstration pairs a Great Plains HT1100 Terra-Max vertical tillage tool, kitted with integrated sensors and a Carbon implement kit, with a Carbon Autonomy-enabled John Deere tractor.

Carbon's Push Beyond LaserWeeder

Carbon Robotics, founded by Paul Mikesell in 2018, is best known for the agricultural-robotics wave its LaserWeeder helped popularize, with over 200 growers in 15 countries running its systems. Opening the autonomy stack widens Carbon's addressable market from weeding to full-day, cross-operation autonomy, joining a broader European and North American push for farm automation that includes recent moves like the UK's £20M Farming Futures fund. "We believe the Carbon Autonomy platform can transform the ways that modern farmers work their fields, and Great Plains is the perfect first partner to launch this program," Mikesell said in the announcement. Great Plains senior product manager Doug Jennings called real-time adjustments "critical to maximizing" incremental gains in yield and efficiency.
