Rocket Lab (NASDAQ: RKLB) notched another milestone for its small-launch cadence early on September 19, 2026, sending Synspective's 12th synthetic-aperture radar satellite to orbit aboard the 96th Electron rocket flown to date. Lifting off at 3:22 p.m. NZST from Launch Complex 1 on New Zealand's Mahia Peninsula, the mission, dubbed Owl By The Dozen, marked the company's 17th Electron flight of 2026 and its 12th dedicated launch for the Tokyo-based Earth-observation operator.

Mission Details

The Electron rocket placed Synspective's StriX-12 satellite into a 572-kilometer low Earth orbit at a 38-degree inclination roughly 53 minutes after lift-off. Rocket Lab's Kick Stage handled the final circularization burn and precise deployment, a capability the company has increasingly leaned on to shorten operator time-to-service. StriX satellites carry X-band synthetic-aperture radar payloads that image the planet through cloud cover and at night, feeding customers in disaster response, infrastructure monitoring and defense analytics.

A Deepening Synspective Partnership

Rocket Lab has been Synspective's exclusive launch provider since 2020 and maintains a perfect success rate across the partnership. Fifteen additional dedicated Electron missions are already booked through 2030 to complete the operator's 30-satellite constellation, an unusual level of committed cadence in the small-launch market. The two companies have also standardized on a lightweight custom dispenser to speed integration.
