Czech renewable-energy developer Covenergo and Swiss BESS platform Delta Capacity have started construction on AKKU One, a 125 MW/300 MWh standalone battery in Lapinlahti, Finland. The project uses Sungrow's PowerTitan platform under the Chinese inverter maker's 1 GWh European framework agreement with Delta Capacity, and commissioning is targeted for Q4 2027.
Nordic BESS Buildout Accelerates
Covenergo took majority ownership of the ready-to-build project from Helios Nordic Energy, with Delta Capacity signed as EPCM contractor and long-term asset manager. NYAB is handling balance-of-plant works, Ampner is doing grid connection studies, Rejlers is providing technical support, and GreenPowerMonitor is delivering the energy management system and SCADA. Kuopio-area substation upgrades run in parallel to the battery build.
Second Finland Project This Month
AKKU One is Delta Capacity's second Finnish BESS to enter execution in September. Its 125 MW/300 MWh Karppio project in Teuva secured a partial tolling agreement with Centrica Energy two weeks earlier, giving it merchant-plus-contracted revenues. Both sites feed the same Nordic power market where Delta Capacity operates the 70 MW/160 MWh Ange BESS in Sweden, currently the Nordics' largest operating battery.
Delta Capacity's 6 GWh Push
The two Finnish projects extend Delta Capacity's pipeline as it targets 6 GWh of European BESS by 2030 under CEO Patrik Hes. "We're proud to bring the same speed and execution that delivered Ange to our new project in Finland," Hes said in the AKKU One announcement. The framework with Sungrow — which also anchored the 1.6 GWh be.storaged framework in Germany — gives Delta Capacity locked-in cell and inverter supply through 2028.
