Draganfly (Nasdaq: DPRO) said this week the Government of Canada has qualified it as a supplier under the Defence Drone Initiative (DDI) Marketplace with coverage across all five capability streams. The designation, effective from August 28, gives the Saskatoon-based drone manufacturer a direct procurement channel to the Canadian Armed Forces and other federal buyers.
Five streams, one panel
The DDI Marketplace is Ottawa's new fast-lane procurement vehicle for uncrewed aerial systems, designed to compress the time between requirement and delivery for tactical, ISR, and dual-use drones. Qualification across all five capability streams — rather than only one — is unusual and positions Draganfly to bid on ISR, logistics, counter-UAS support, training, and specialist mission tasks alike. The company's Commander 3XL and Orca platforms, the latter acquired via its Skip Dynamix deal, both figure in the panel's expected use cases.
NATO tailwinds
The award lands as Canada joins a broader NATO scramble to modernise UAS fleets, spurred by lessons from Ukraine. Ottawa has been explicit about wanting a domestic supply base rather than importing exquisite platforms. Draganfly's growing product portfolio — heavy-lift multirotors, long-range fixed wings and counter-drone development work for the U.S. Army — gives it a broader footprint than most Canadian rivals.
What comes next
Qualification is a gating step, not a contract. Task orders under DDI will be issued as requirements crystallise; for a small-cap manufacturer, even modest awards can move the revenue line meaningfully. Draganfly, which is also active in civilian delivery pilots, has been layering defence work on top of an expanding public-safety business.
