KPMG and Microsoft on June 9, 2026 expanded their global alliance to put Microsoft 365 Copilot in the hands of KPMG's entire 276,000-person workforce and to govern AI agents across KPMG's client services with Microsoft's new Agent 365 platform — the first global rollout of Microsoft's enterprise agent control plane.
What The Deal Actually Does
Under the agreement, KPMG will use Microsoft Agent 365 to deploy, monitor, secure and lifecycle-manage AI agents across its 138-country network, and member firms will expand Microsoft 365 Copilot from a 2024 pilot to the full global workforce. The plumbing is KPMG Workbench, KPMG's multi-agent orchestration platform built on Microsoft Azure AI Foundry, which is designed to coordinate agents across audit, tax and advisory delivery.
Why It Matters For Enterprise AI
Agent 365 is Microsoft's bet that the next bottleneck in enterprise AI is not model quality but agent governance. Lisa Heneghan, KPMG's Global Chief Digital Officer, framed the deployment as the move "from isolated pilots to trusted enterprise-scale AI," with built-in security and accountability. Microsoft has classified KPMG as a "Frontier Firm" — its label for organizations rebuilding their operating model around AI rather than bolting agents onto existing workflows.
Audit, Tax And Advisory Get The Agent Treatment
Across audit, the deal embeds Copilot and Agent 365 into KPMG Clara, the firm's global smart audit platform. Scott Flynn, KPMG's Global Head of Audit, said the integration enables "real-time analysis, earlier risk identification" and deeper insight — language that telegraphs where regulators will eventually ask the hardest questions about agent-driven audit work. In tax and advisory, the same Workbench backbone coordinates client-facing agents with KPMG's own delivery agents.
Customer Validation From Integra LifeSciences And ACCA
The launch came with named-customer support that matters more than the typical press-release endorsement. Integra LifeSciences CIO Dimitri Kvares described an enterprise AI operating model that runs Copilot across Global Supply Chain, Regulatory Affairs and Medical Affairs, with a dedicated team measuring adoption and ROI. The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is using Workbench to support members across its global network. Both are exactly the kind of cross-function deployments Microsoft has been arguing Copilot needs to look real.
The Bigger Microsoft Agent Picture
Agent 365 first appeared at Microsoft Build last month alongside HorizonDB, GPU-accelerated Fabric and Foundry's expanded model catalog — Microsoft's framing of the new "data context layer" enterprises need before agents can act safely. The KPMG deployment is the first global proof point for that thesis, sitting alongside Anthropic's Claude finance agents and Microsoft add-ins and Snowflake's $200M Claude deal as the enterprise AI race shifts from model benchmarks to operational governance.
What To Watch Next
The pact extends KPMG's UNESCO-backed AI EmpowerED program, which aims to train more than 500,000 teachers and students on AI by end of 2026.
