Israeli AI-native cybersecurity startup Mate Security has closed a $35 million Series A led by Canaan Partners, taking total funding above $50 million less than a year after emerging from stealth. The round, first reported by Axios and confirmed by the company on July 28, drew participation from Insight Partners, Team8 and M12 — Microsoft’s venture fund — as enterprises look for AI-native alternatives to legacy security operations centers.
Building an agentic SOC on a “Security Context Graph”
Founded in 2022 by veterans of Wiz, Microsoft, Axonius and Apex, Mate has taken a different route than most AI SOC startups. Rather than layering language models on top of alerts, it first ingests SIEM logs, SOPs, tickets and configuration data to build what it calls a Security Context Graph — an organizational “brain” created within 24 hours of deployment. Specialized AI agents then triage, investigate, respond to and hunt for threats on top of that graph, feeding new evidence back into the shared memory after each incident.
Why investors are backing the round
Mate says business has grown more than 500% since Q3 2025, with Fortune 500 customers including Bridgewater Associates, AlphaSense, Fitch Group, Merlin Entertainments, monday.com and Freshworks. The company reports up to a 93% reduction in mean-time-to-respond and near-100% alert coverage inside customer SOCs. Canaan general partner Joydeep Bhattacharyya called Mate’s context layer “a fundamentally different approach to security operations,” while Insight Partners’ Teddie Wardi highlighted the platform’s “operational trust” at AI speed.
Black Hat debut and market context
The company will make its first Black Hat USA appearance from August 3-6 at booth 4717, joining a wave of AI-security startups such as Anthropic and Discern Security that are competing for enterprise SOC budgets. AI-native cybersecurity startups have pulled in more than $855 million across 150 seed rounds in 2026, and Mate’s Series A slots it alongside recent identity-security raises like Okta’s acquisition of Permiso Security.
