Sunnyvale, California-based Discern Security announced on July 30 a $13 million Series A led by Forgepoint Capital, taking the two-year-old cybersecurity startup's total funding to $16 million and unlocking a wider rollout of its Discern Security Loop agentic platform. First Rays Ventures, Growth Enjin Partners, Vela Ventures and angel investors joined the round.
What the Loop actually does
The Discern Security Loop ingests data from an organization's environment, then layers AI agents on top of human-approved workflows to identify control gaps, prioritise remediation and produce measurable evidence of progress. Instead of the spreadsheets and interview-driven audits that dominate today, it maps every finding to assets, controls and compliance requirements, and grades them against MITRE, NIST and CIS baselines. Advocates describe it as continuous, objective posture management rather than a point-in-time snapshot.
Investor thesis
"AI can significantly improve security posture by closing control gaps with existing tools, but doing so requires a deep understanding of the organisation's environment, business context and security stack," said Forgepoint Capital partner Rey Kirton. "Discern brings that understanding into an AI-powered workspace that helps users investigate, act and continuously improve security." The round adds Discern to a busy month for agentic security capital that already includes Onyx Security's $113M Series B, Hush Security's $30M Series A and DataBahn's $40M Series B.
Where the money goes
Discern said the fresh capital will fund engineering and product hiring, an expanded library of AI Skills and autonomous capabilities, and broader deployment of the Loop across enterprises trying to convert cybersecurity from a reactive function into a continuously measurable one.
