The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted 510(k) clearance for the multiport configuration of Momentis Surgical's Anovo® Surgical System, making Anovo the first robotic surgical platform capable of supporting natural-orifice, single-port and conventional multiport approaches on a single system.

Three access modes, one core platform

Anovo's proprietary robotic arms mimic the surgeon's shoulder, elbow and wrist for internal articulation, which historically enabled single-incision and transvaginal access. With the new multiport indication, surgeons can now deploy the same instruments through several trocars for conventional laparoscopic workflows, or fall back to natural-orifice and single-port modes without switching systems.

Competitive context

The clearance lands the same week Johnson & Johnson's OTTAVA soft-tissue platform received de novo authorization for ten soft-tissue indications, and follows continued expansion in the soft-tissue robotics market long dominated by Intuitive Surgical's da Vinci and Medtronic's Hugo. Anovo's ability to consolidate three access paradigms on one platform aims to lower the total cost of ownership for hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers weighing multi-system purchases.

Commercial rollout

Momentis, founded in 2013 in Israel and now headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, said it will begin training partner sites on the multiport workflow immediately and start commercial shipments during the second half of 2026. The company is chaired by Dr. Maurice R. Ferre, founder of MAKO Surgical, and holds more than 140 patents worldwide. Momentis previously secured 510(k) clearance for a second-generation Anovo platform with haptic feedback earlier in its evolution.
