Space technology company Open Cosmos has raised €300 million (about $346 million) to accelerate what its leadership calls a European push toward sovereign satellite infrastructure. Lightrock led the round, with participation from ETF Partners, the National Security Strategic Investment Fund, Institut Català de Finances, Entrepreneurs First, Convex, Claret Capital Partners, A&G Global Investors, Trill Impact, Santander Alternative Investments, Endeavor Catalyst Fund and two major international pension funds.
A Satellite A Day, Across Four European Factories
Open Cosmos was founded in 2015 at Harwell Campus in the United Kingdom and has grown into a roughly 400-person operation stretching across the UK, Spain, Portugal and Greece. The company designs, builds and operates small satellites end-to-end, and now says its manufacturing footprint can turn out roughly one satellite per day across four European factories. The new capital will scale that industrial base while accelerating three flagship platforms: ConnectedCosmos for orbital connectivity, OpenConstellation for shared Earth-observation missions, and DataCosmos for AI-powered geospatial intelligence.
Real-Time Intelligence From Orbit
Founder and CEO Rafel Jorda Siquier said space infrastructure is becoming as critical as energy, digital networks and transport. Open Cosmos has signed more than $370 million in new contracts over the past three and a half years and has logged five consecutive years of profitable growth. Customers include European governments, national space agencies and large energy and infrastructure operators looking for climate resilience, maritime surveillance and disaster response data delivered in near real time.

The deal lands as European capitals push to reduce dependence on non-European space assets, following capacity constraints exposed by conflict in Ukraine and by Starlink's dominant position in low-Earth orbit. Open Cosmos' investors framed the round as backing a European alternative that spans the full stack — from smallsat design and manufacturing to data services — rather than a single link in the chain.
