Ørsted has filed for a new offshore wind farm off Taiwan with a potential capacity of up to 2 GW, entering the country's environmental impact assessment process, the Danish developer's submission to Taiwan's Ministry of Environment shows.
What Dadu II Would Look Like
Named Dadu II, the project would cover approximately 234.6 square kilometres of sea area off Changhua County, with the nearest point of the proposed wind farm about 38 kilometres from shore. Ørsted has proposed individual turbines in the 14 MW to 22 MW class and a total installed capacity of no more than 2,002 MW. The final turbine count and configuration have not been fixed.
The environmental assessment is at the public consultation stage. A public meeting for Dadu II was held on 13 August in Changhua County.
Second Dadu Site In The Same Pipeline
Ørsted is also developing Dadu I off Taiwan, listed on the Ministry of Environment's project pages with a potential capacity of up to 924 MW. The Environmental Impact Statement for Dadu I was recently completed, moving that project a step closer to construction.
Extending A Deepening Taiwan Footprint
The Dadu proposals build on Ørsted's existing Taiwanese portfolio. All turbines were installed earlier this year at the developer's 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 wind farms, which are targeting full commercial operation in the third quarter of 2026. Taiwan's offshore wind sector has continued to draw new capital and construction milestones in recent weeks, including the completed offshore substation and export cable works at the Fengmiao 1 project.
For Ørsted, the Dadu II filing extends a Taiwan build-out that reaches back a decade and cements the company's status as the largest single developer of offshore wind in Asia-Pacific outside mainland China.
