Renesas Opens Physical AI And Robotics Lab In Beijing, Targets 70% Humanoid BOM

Renesas Electronics opened its Physical AI & Robotics Lab in Beijing on August 27, 2026, to demonstrate, validate and co-develop next-generation humanoid and physical-AI systems, and said it now targets 70 percent bill-of-materials coverage in humanoid robots.

Renesas Electronics has officially opened its Physical AI & Robotics Lab in Beijing, a dedicated facility for system-level demonstration, validation and joint development of next-generation robotics with Chinese customers, ecosystem partners, universities and startups.

What The Lab Does

The Beijing lab combines Renesas silicon for embedded processing, sensing, actuation and power management with AI modeling, control software and full-stack verification benches, giving customers a place to prove out complete humanoid and mobile robot designs from proof-of-concept through mass production. It uses Renesas 365, the company's cloud-based electronics development platform, plus its functional-safety and edge-AI IP acquired over three decades of automotive and industrial work.

70 Percent BOM Ambition

Renesas Vice President Ivo Marocco said the company today addresses roughly 30 percent of the humanoid robot bill of materials and sees a path to 70 percent as its Physical AI Division, formed on July 1, integrates control, power, sensing, AI and ecosystem software into complete reference stacks. Renesas China President Yvonne Liu said Beijing was chosen because China leads on robotics adoption, ecosystem density and supply-chain depth, giving Renesas the shortest feedback loop between silicon roadmap and shipping humanoid platforms.

Where It Fits

The move puts Renesas in direct partnership territory with China's fast-growing humanoid supply chain and against silicon rivals NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Ambarella and Horizon Robotics for physical-AI sockets. It also complements the recent Xen Project functional-safety committee push and Renesas's own 365 developer cloud.
