Sol Systems announced on August 21, 2026 that it has acquired the 200 MW-ac Lumberton Solar Project in Hardin County, Texas from D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI). The Washington, D.C.-based independent power producer said the deal, its second project acquisition of 2026, is backed by a long-term power purchase agreement and further strengthens its portfolio of utility-scale ERCOT projects.
A Second 2026 Pickup Inside ERCOT
The Lumberton acquisition follows Sol Systems''' $?250 MW Wolf Creek pickup in Saline County, Illinois earlier this year and expands the firm'''s ERCOT footprint alongside its Nightfall Solar Project. "Lumberton is exactly the kind of high-quality project that strengthens our portfolio and advances Sol Systems''' strategy of pairing disciplined growth with long-term community value," said Andrew Grin, senior vice president of M&A and strategic partnerships at Sol Systems.
DESRI Hands Off A Development-Stage Winner
DESRI, a member of the D. E. Shaw group with a 12 GW U.S. renewable portfolio, developed and permitted Lumberton before deciding to monetise the project. "After many years in development, our team is pleased to complete this transaction with Sol Systems, a respected industry partner," said Hy Martin, chief development officer at DESRI. The transaction extends a track record of joint work between the two firms and continues DESRI'''s pattern of recycling capital into new construction-stage assets.
Local Impact In Hardin County
The project is expected to deliver construction employment, long-term tax revenues and local investment to Hardin County, and will progress toward construction under Sol'''s Infrastructure + Impact framework. It also lands alongside a wave of U.S. clean-energy deployment activity, including the recent U.K. green light for Low Carbon'''s 400 MW Beacon Fen Energy Park and financial close on LG Energy Solution'''s $4 billion Michigan LFP plant.
