Star Catcher Industries has closed an oversubscribed $65 million Series A to build what it calls the first power grid in space, a milestone that pushes orbital energy from concept toward a commercial market.

Beaming power to satellites already in orbit

The Jacksonville, Florida startup is developing a network of orbital nodes that use optical power beaming to transmit concentrated solar energy directly to a client satellite's existing solar arrays. Each node can deliver between 100 watts and 100 kilowatts of broad-spectrum energy, and Star Catcher says recipients can scale their available power by up to 10x with no hardware modifications. The approach treats power as shared infrastructure in orbit, much like the terrestrial grid that enabled earlier leaps in connectivity and computing.

An oversubscribed round with deep defense ties

The Series A was led by B Capital and co-led by Shield Capital and Cerberus Ventures, with participation from GreatPoint Ventures, Helena, Oceans Ventures and MVP Ventures. The round brings Star Catcher's total funding to roughly $88 million, following a $12.25 million seed in 2024. Retired General John "Jay" Raymond, the first Chief of Space Operations of the U.S. Space Force and now a senior managing director at Cerberus, is joining the company's board.

Proven on the ground, aiming for orbit

Star Catcher, founded in 2024 by former Made In Space and Redwire executive Andrew Rush, has already set a world record for wireless optical power transmission, delivering more than 1.1 kW to commercial solar panels during a ground demonstration at Florida's Launch and Landing Facility. The company holds signed power purchase agreements with customers including Starcloud, Loft Orbital and Astro Digital, and reports a commercial pipeline representing more than $3 billion in projected annual recurring revenue. It plans its first orbital power-beaming demonstration before the end of 2026.

The raise lands amid a busy stretch for space financing and dealmaking, from Lockheed Martin's $514M Space Force GPS award to MDA Space's acquisition of Blue Canyon Technologies and Open Cosmos's Atlantic constellation win. Like Atom Computing's recent Series C, it signals investor appetite for deep-tech infrastructure with long horizons.
