Sungrow and Oldenburg-based EWE subsidiary be.storaged have signed a framework agreement to co-develop a 1.6 GWh battery energy storage system pipeline across Germany, standardising design, procurement and operations for gigawatt-hour-scale projects that will feed the country's expanding renewable base.

Standardising Gigawatt-Hour BESS For Germany

Under the two-year framework, be.storaged handles planning, permitting and long-term operations while Sungrow Deutschland supplies its PowerTitan 3.0 liquid-cooled BESS platform - a 1.78 MW power-conversion system paired with 7.14 MWh of battery capacity inside each 20-foot container, scalable to 28.5 MWh per block. Standardising on a single stack should shorten feedback cycles between the two companies and cut the coordination overhead that has historically dragged German BESS timelines.

Signal Boost For A Congested German Grid

Germany is racing to add fast-cycling storage to soak up midday solar and shift evening peak demand as coal capacity retires. The 1.6 GWh pipeline lands weeks after Sungrow opened a 10 GWh battery storage factory in Egypt and Sungrow's Nordics push with Delta Capacity, extending its European footprint from Sweden to Bulgaria and now Germany.

be.storaged, wholly owned by German utility group EWE, already operates flagship BESS assets and is pushing into the gigawatt-hour tier alongside partners like Trina Storage and CATL.
