Wandercraft said on August 11, 2026 that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has cleared Eve, the first self-balancing personal exoskeleton authorised for use in the home by eligible wheelchair users living with spinal cord injuries at any level. Clearance opens a Medicare-reimbursable pathway that could put a walking robot in the living rooms of qualified adults for the first time, and sets up a September 17 commercial launch at the Cure healthcare innovation campus in New York City.
What Eve Actually Does
Eve is a battery-powered wearable that keeps its own balance, so the user does not have to. Eligible adults with any level of spinal cord injury who can operate the handheld remote can stand up, walk on level indoor and level adjacent outdoor surfaces, turn, bend, and use both hands while upright, all under the supervision of a specifically trained companion. The device is intended to complement, not replace, the wheelchair, extending upright mobility to ordinary domestic moments — reaching a top cabinet, making coffee, having a conversation at eye level.
From Rehabilitation Clinic To The Living Room
Eve is the personal-use sibling of Wandercraft's Atalante X, a self-balancing rehabilitation exoskeleton deployed at more than 150 clinical and research sites worldwide. FDA clearance was supported by a three-site pivotal trial run at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx, Kessler Foundation in West Orange, NJ, and Walk in New York, testing safety, function, training and readiness for personal use. Participants reported gains in psychological well-being, endurance, lower-limb spasticity, sitting balance, sleep quality and bladder and bowel function.
Medicare Pathway And Distribution
Medicare has reimbursed personal exoskeletons under DMEPOS billing code K1007 since 2024, and Wandercraft expects Eve to become eligible for coverage within 60 to 90 days. National Seating & Mobility will act as exclusive CRT distribution partner across more than 180 U.S. and Canadian locations, with Walk US, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation and USVetServ handling regional evaluation, training and Veterans Affairs distribution. Training runs five two-hour sessions and can be completed in about a week.
