Waymo Adds Denver, San Diego And Tampa To Robotaxi Map, Now Live In 14 US Cities

Waymo has quietly turned three more cities into live robotaxi markets, opening public rides in Denver, San Diego and Tampa and pushing the Alphabet-owned service into 14 US metros. Riders will be invited on a rolling basis in each city, following the same slow-ramp playbook the company has used from San Francisco to Miami.

Three cities, one growing fleet

The new launches bring Waymo's total driverless fleet to more than 4,000 vehicles, mixing modified Jaguar I-Pace hatchbacks with the new Zeekr-built Ojai minivan. In Denver and San Diego, the Ojai will be the only vehicle riders can hail at launch, marking the sixth-generation Waymo Driver's largest deployment yet. Tampa will run on the existing Jaguar fleet as service builds out.

A relentless 18-month expansion

Since opening Austin through Uber in March 2025, Waymo has stood up commercial service in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Nashville, Orlando and San Antonio. The Nevada Transportation Authority last month cleared the company to operate up to 1,000 driverless vehicles in Clark County, home to Las Vegas, and Waymo has also flagged London and Munich as international targets. Denver, San Diego and Tampa follow the familiar pattern of mapping, safety-driver testing, invited employees and media, then paying riders.

Tesla's Cybercab race closes in — sort of

The new markets land just as Tesla accelerates its own paid robotaxi service in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando and Tampa, and pushes the Cybercab two-seater into its network. Tampa is now the first city where both companies will compete head-to-head for driverless-hail volume. Even so, Waymo's roughly 500,000 weekly paid trips give it a wide operational lead as the sector inches toward proving it can be profitable.
