India's Zoho Corporation on September 2 released Catalyst 3.0, an overhaul of its full-stack cloud development platform aimed squarely at the era of AI-generated code — with an MCP server, Agent Skills and native hooks into Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex.
An MCP server for Claude Code and Codex
The centerpiece of Catalyst 3.0 is Model Context Protocol (MCP) support. Developers can now discover and invoke Catalyst actions — deploying functions, running database queries, triggering builds, checking analytics — directly from an Anthropic Claude Code or OpenAI Codex console, without touching Catalyst's own UI. A non-interactive CLI mirrors those actions for CI pipelines and headless agents. Zoho has open-sourced the underlying Agent Skills repository so third-party developers can inspect and extend the workflows.
Governance for AI-generated apps
Alongside the AI plumbing, Catalyst 3.0 layers on the parts enterprises usually add later: role-based access, audit trails, secrets management, region-scoped hosting and analytics. Zoho's pitch is that AI coding assistants have compressed the "idea to prototype" loop, but the "prototype to production" leap still trips teams up on things like key rotation, quota enforcement and log retention — problems Catalyst wants to own.
Free for students
To seed adoption, Zoho is making Catalyst completely free for students building non-commercial apps — full-stack hosting, functions, database and AI tooling with no subscription or credit card required. It mirrors an aggressive playbook Zoho has run on its office and CRM suites: give the platform away where switching costs are lowest, then upsell paid tiers as apps graduate to production.
A crowded agentic-cloud lane
The release lands in a fast-consolidating market for "agent-ready" developer clouds, weeks after Palo Alto Networks bought AI agent startup Console, AIR raised $50M for an AI-agent firewall, and Anthropic and OpenAI released dedicated agent runtimes for their own coding models. Catalyst's opinionated stack — Zoho-run infra plus MCP plus open Skills — is a direct answer to Vercel, Cloudflare Workers AI and AWS's newer agent primitives, but priced for smaller shops.
