Google has introduced Gemini Spark, a 24/7 agentic personal assistant unveiled at its I/O 2026 developer conference on Tuesday. Built from Gemini's base models and an agentic harness drawn from Google Antigravity, Spark is designed to take on long-horizon tasks with minimal oversight, marking Google's most direct entry yet into the race to build AI agents that act on a user's behalf.
An agent that lives in your inbox
"It's your personal AI agent that helps you navigate your digital life, taking action on your behalf and under your direction," Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai told reporters during a pre-briefing. Spark runs on dedicated virtual machines on Google Cloud, so it keeps working without the user needing to keep a laptop open. Users can email Spark through a dedicated Gmail address, and the assistant can browse the web directly through Chrome, with progress tracked on mobile via the new Android Halo system.
Built on Gemini and Workspace integration
Google's potential edge is data it already holds. Spark ships with out-of-the-box integrations across Gmail, Google Docs and other Workspace products, sparing users the work of wiring up permissions with outside apps. "Need to send an email to your boss with a status update? Spark can pull all the facts from your emails, your docs, your sheets and slides and write the draft for you," said Josh Woodward, Google Labs VP for the Gemini app and AI Studio, who noted small businesses are using it to watch over inboxes. The assistant builds on the broader Gemini lineup, including Gemini 3.5 Flash, also unveiled at I/O 2026.
How Spark fits the agentic wave
Spark follows a wave of agentic products from major AI labs, including offerings from OpenAI and Anthropic, but Google is betting that deep integration with its own suite will set it apart. Like rival assistants, Spark can connect to a wide range of services over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), with more integrations expected in the coming months. It joins a busy slate of Google AI launches, from the Gemini Omni world model to new editing integrations in the Gemini app.
Availability
Gemini Spark is currently in testing inside Google, and the company said it expects to make the assistant available to Google AI Ultra subscribers within the following week. Pricing beyond the Ultra tier and a wider rollout timeline were not detailed at launch.
