SSi Mantra Crosses 12,500 Miles For World's Longest Robotic Telesurgery

SS Innovations' SSi Mantra system performed a cardiac telesurgery across a 20,000-kilometer fiber link between Guyana and India, the longest robotic procedure ever recorded.

SSi Mantra Crosses 12,500 Miles For World's Longest Robotic Telesurgery

SS Innovations International (Nasdaq: SSII) has completed the longest-distance robotic surgery ever performed, with CEO and cardiac surgeon Dr. Sudhir Srivastava operating from Georgetown, Guyana on a patient at the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Science in Indore, India — a fiber link spanning roughly 12,500 miles (20,000 kilometers). The June 4, 2026 procedure used the company's SSi Mantra robotic platform and the new SSi MantrAsana portable tele-surgeon console.

A 20,000 Kilometer Fiber Hop With 300ms Latency

The historic case connected IRCAD India in Indore with Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where Dr. Srivastava remotely conducted a Left Internal Mammary Artery (LIMA) takedown. The fiber path between the two sites introduced a network latency of 290 to 300 milliseconds, which the MantrAsana console compensated for so the robotic arms in India faithfully tracked the surgeon's hand movements in Guyana. The previous longest robotic telesurgery, between Strasbourg, France and Indore in 2024, covered roughly half that distance.

Inside The Operation

The patient-side robotic cart was operated by a team including Dr. Lalit Malik of Manipal Hospitals Jaipur, Dr. Ram Shukla of Bhandari Hospital and Research Center, and IRCAD India president Dr. Mohit Bhandari. SS Innovations says 22 cardiac telesurgeries have now been completed worldwide on the Mantra platform, which the company says is the only surgical robotic system ever used for remote cardiac procedures. To date, 173 telesurgeries across all specialties have been performed on the SSi Mantra globally.

Guyana Becomes A Robotic Surgery Hub

The case coincided with the launch of Guyana's National Robotic Surgery Program and the country's 60th Independence anniversary. President Mohamed Irfaan Ali and Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony attended the inaugural day, during which three robotic procedures were performed. Guyana's Government Analyst-Food and Drug Department approved the SSi Mantra in May 2026, making it the 14th country to authorize the platform after recent approvals in Colombia, Ecuador, Kenya and the United Arab Emirates.

Where Robotic Cardiac Surgery Is Heading

SS Innovations is pushing telesurgery as a way to extend specialist surgical expertise to under-served regions without flying surgeons across continents. The company has also positioned its lineup beside other surgical robotics players such as Microsure's MUSA-3 and partner platforms profiled in our coverage of Mecka AI's robot training data engine and the broader Diligent Robotics Moxi 2.0 hospital rollout.
