ACME Solar Holdings has operationalised battery energy storage system (BESS) projects totalling roughly 3.62 GWh across three sites in Rajasthan, one of the fastest utility-scale storage build-outs India has seen this year. The Gurugram-based independent power producer confirmed the milestone on 24 July 2026 alongside a technical update on the Pokhran facility.

The company said its subsidiaries commissioned about 2.29 GWh of BESS capacity in the current financial year alone, taking cumulative operational storage to 3.62 GWh. The projects are designed to strengthen grid stability, absorb peak-hour demand and help integrate more round-the-clock renewable energy into the national grid.
Rajasthan already accounts for close to half of ACME's operating fleet, and the state's transmission planners have been running back-to-back BESS auctions to firm the desert corridor's growing solar generation, similar in scale to NTPC Green Energy's 3,200 MWh Fatehgarh tender.
Suryodaya Pokhran fire cleared
ACME Solar also closed the loop on the fire incident first flagged on 17 July at its Suryodaya BESS facility in Pokhran. A completed root-cause analysis pinned the event on an electrical short circuit in the AC cables between the transformer and the power conversion system, which caused a localised fire that was quickly contained.
The company said restoration work is complete and operations have resumed, with no damage to other critical equipment at the site. Emergency response by on-site teams and technology partners kept the incident from spilling into adjacent battery containers, a scenario that has plagued larger US and Australian projects.
Portfolio and pipeline
ACME Solar's integrated portfolio now stands at around 8,070 MW spanning solar, wind, hybrid and firm & dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE), with 2,990 MW of operational contracted capacity plus the 3.62 GWh BESS fleet. Another 5,080 MW of renewable capacity is under construction, keeping the IPP among India's most aggressive scalers alongside broader financing pushes tracked in coverage such as Aquila's 56 MW Wetzen merchant BESS financing and Malawi's first standalone utility BESS.
