Anthropic, Macquarie And GIC Launch Theseus Infrastructure To Build Dedicated Claude Data Centres

Anthropic is joining forces with Macquarie Asset Management and Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC to spin up Theseus Infrastructure, a new dedicated platform that will develop, operate and long-term lease AI data centres purpose-built to power Claude. The tie-up, announced Aug. 10, deepens Anthropic's push to secure vertically integrated compute capacity as demand for its models continues to outpace hyperscaler leases alone.

How The Platform Works

Macquarie-managed funds and GIC will own Theseus Infrastructure and fund the majority of equity for each project, while Anthropic will serve as the anchor tenant under long-term take-or-pay-style agreements. The venture will start by identifying and developing new sites in the United States, with an emphasis on locations that can secure large blocks of power and land on the timescales the company needs. Anthropic reiterated a commitment to cover any consumer electricity price hikes that its facilities cause, extending an undertaking it published earlier this year.

Why Anthropic Needs Its Own Platform

The venture lands as Anthropic assembles what is fast becoming one of the largest AI compute stacks outside the hyperscalers. In recent weeks the company has locked in a $9.1 billion, 20-year compute lease with Bitcoin miner Riot, a $10 billion six-year Volta deal and an AMD equity partnership covering 2 GW of MI450 GPUs. It is also building in-house silicon, prepping a rumoured mega-IPO and reportedly weighing a $6 billion acquisition of AI-infra specialist Decart.

Big-Ticket Infra Capital Meets Frontier AI

For Macquarie and GIC, Theseus fits neatly into the wave of infrastructure capital chasing AI datacentre demand. Macquarie is one of the world's largest infrastructure investors, while GIC is coming off a joint bet with BlackRock and MGX on Aligned Data Centers. Theseus formalises the shift from generic wholesale colocation to purpose-built, single-tenant AI campuses that anchor tenants like Anthropic increasingly demand.
