Cognizant and Gulf Edge on July 23, 2026 launched a strategic partnership in Bangkok to accelerate enterprise AI adoption across Thailand, pledging to spin up roughly 1,000 high-skilled AI and digital-transformation jobs and to position the country as Southeast Asia's next AI hub.
A sovereign-AI play across six sectors
The alliance pairs Gulf Edge — the digital infrastructure arm of Thai energy giant Gulf Development (SET: GULF) — with Cognizant's AI engineering and services muscle. The two companies will initially target banking and financial services, energy and utilities, healthcare, telecommunications, manufacturing and the Thai public sector, delivering AI platforms, systems integration, cloud modernisation and managed services on top of Gulf Edge's sovereign data centre, cloud and satellite footprint.
Bridging AI investment and enterprise value
"Cognizant and Gulf Edge share a clear ambition to accelerate AI adoption in Thailand," said Ganesh Ayyar, Cognizant president for Asia-Pacific and Japan, adding that the joint effort has the potential to generate about 1,000 jobs. Sarath Ratanavadi, CEO of Gulf Development, framed the deal as central to "helping Thailand become an AI-native economy," combining Gulf's energy and infrastructure with Cognizant's global enterprise expertise.
Southeast Asia joins the sovereign-AI wave
The tie-up lands the same week as the $500B+ SK Group–NVIDIA and NAVER–NVIDIA–Brookfield announcements in Korea, reflecting a broader push by governments to secure domestic AI compute, models and talent. It also comes alongside OpenAI's Presence enterprise agents platform, which is aggressively courting APAC banks and telcos.
