Swedish electric-trucking company Einride said on 18 August 2026 that it will buy 500 Tesla Semis and roll them out to shippers such as Amazon over the next 24 months in what both companies describe as the largest publicly disclosed Tesla Semi order to date.
Tripling the electric big-rig fleet
The Tesla Semis will land in Einride's fleet in phases beginning September 2026 and will operate on Einride's Saga AI fleet-management platform, which handles routing, charging windows and driver operations. The deal roughly triples Einride's heavy-duty electric fleet, from about 250 trucks today to around 750, and is fully financed by a third party rather than off Einride's balance sheet.
CEO Roozbeh Charli said the "deployment is yet another proof point that we can execute at the scale our customers demand." Einride expects the trucks to help convert about $800 million in potential long-term annual recurring revenue under joint business plans with shippers into actual revenue.
A North American freight network for Amazon and shippers
The Semis will be available to Einride customers across North America, extending electric freight corridors in California, Georgia, New Jersey, Illinois and Texas. Amazon is the named launch customer — the deal builds on Einride's Nasdaq debut in June via a Legato SPAC merger and its April agreement to add 75 electric trucks to Amazon's Relay freight network.
Tesla Semi's production race
The order lands as Tesla ramps its Semi factory in Nevada, where the first units rolled off the high-volume line in April 2026. Tesla has warned that hitting "volume production" this year hinges on scaling its 4680 battery cell supply, a constraint the automaker also cites for the Cybercab. For Tesla, the Einride commitment is a marquee validation of the Semi as its long-delayed heavy-duty programme finally hits customer roads at fleet scale, adjacent to its robotaxi push.
For Einride, the strategy pairs owned autonomous cabless "pods" with third-party electric tractors under one AI orchestration layer — an approach echoed in its own Level 4 autonomous freight partnership with DAF Trucks and PACCAR earlier in August.
